At Sunset Retrievers, we specialize in breeding versatile golden retriever puppies in the bay area with both companionship and purpose in mind. Our program focuses on producing beautiful, well-socialized, and exceptionally healthy puppies. Many of our dogs are perfect for loving pet homes, while others show incredible potential for therapy, service, and field work.

We take our role as golden retriever breeders very seriously. Every parent dog is intentionally chosen with careful consideration to longevity, pedigree health, breed-standard structure, temperament, and overall purpose. We are inspected regularly by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and have received praise for our cleanliness, organization, and the loving, structured environment in which our golden retriever puppies in the bay area are raised. What Makes Us Different

All Sunset Retrievers puppies are raised inside our home and cared for around the clock. This is our full-time passion, meaning your puppy gets full-time attention. From birth to going home, they experience a nurturing environment filled with daily interaction from our family, children, and other pets.
We place a significant emphasis on health and genetic integrity. Every one of our parent dogs completes comprehensive health testing – including OFA/International testing and/or PENNHIP hips, elbows, cardiac, and eyes, as well as full genetic panels. These evaluations require substantial time, financial investment, and careful planning, but they are non-negotiable for us. Our dedication to health testing ensures that our puppies begin life with the strongest foundation possible, and it reflects our belief that ethical, responsible breeding starts with transparency and quality.
Our program prioritizes socialization heavily during every stage of life. Puppies are gently exposed to household sounds, handling exercises, early enrichment, and confidence-building experiences to prepare them for real world. Because they grow up deeply loved and consistently handled, we look for families who will continue giving them the same devotion they’ve been raised with.
All of our puppies go through training in order to best prepare them for their future families and life experiences. Each of our golden retriever puppies in the Bay Area will go through the following training programs before going home:
Puppy Culture & Empowered Puppy Curriculum
We implement a socialization and training program specifically developed for puppies from birth through the end of their critical socialization period, with age appropriate protocols.
ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation)
Golden retriever puppies that are gently handled and stroked during their early days help them learn that human touch is a pleasant experience. ENS will be conducted with every puppy from day 3-16 of life, which is believed to be a time of rapid neurological growth and development. ENS is believed to impact the neurological system by “kicking it into action” earlier than what is normally expected. Some benefits observed in dogs that are exposed to ENS include improved cardiovascular performance (heart rate), stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease.
ESI (Early Scent Introduction)
This program is designed to enhance a puppies ability to identify and react to specific scents. It has been studied and shown that dogs exposed to ESI earn more scenting titles, which is an AKC sport. Even if you do not plan on entering your dog into competitions or taking them hunting, ESI training is a great skill that your dog will have in case of a future need.
Intro to Potty Training
Starting at 3.5 weeks old, puppies will learn to go potty in a litter box. This is an introduction to potty training, and puppies will need further training when they go to their forever homes.
